Five minutes in:
Fast forward a few hours, and after a little bit of this:
Things looked like this:
I'm pretty happy with how clean the heads/lifter valley and intake were. No build up or gunk of any kind. Unfortunately I didn't get to finish before I had to go to work. So this is what she looks like at the moment:
I'll throw another post up on oppo tomorrow with the results.

Cool what car is that? I'm not too good at identifying the older stuff.

Hint: Third picture down, the engine block says "FoMoCo" and "289".
It's a 67 Mustang. Engine is of unknown year though, it originally was a 6 cylinder.

That's pretty sweet. Looking forward to more updates.

Well, if you ever put the Monte Carlo bar in, you'll be telling yourself "Man, am I glad I did that project first before installing this huge bar that blocks access to everything".
Extra strength is awesome when driving, not so awesome when you need to do ANYTHING with the top end.

Hah, yeah. I'm definitely going to put a Monte bar in at some point. Just about to go outside and finish up. After I get everything installed I promised my self that I'd adjust the valves and the carb while I was at it.
They're bolt in right? I'm taking a MIG welding class and I'm planning on building my own Monte Carlo bar and sub frame connectors eventually, if I get good enough.

They are indeed bolt in, the problem is if your shock towers have already started to collapse. If you build your own, make you measure how long the bar/width of the engine is supposed to be instead of how wide your bay is now. I curse myself for not taking a picture of the apparatus my dad and I used to push the shock towers back out, but it involved a vertical jack (the tower looking kind) and a bunch of 2x4

And Kinja Mobile is acting weird today, so I didn't get to add good luck with putting the intake back on and adjusting the carb!

Sweet work. What are you doing to it? New intake and carb?

Thanks, it had REALLY bad intake leaks, I basically took it all apart, cleaned everything thoroughly and re assembled with new gaskets.
I put back on the Edelbrock 1406 600cfm carb and Edelbrock 2121 Performer 289 Aluminum Intake that it had when I bought it.
When I swapped it over to 5 lug I put in a Currie LSD with 3.55 gears, so it's already pretty quick, quicker than I'm used to anyways, so no real engine mods for the foreseeable future. I just want it to be reliable, and save money for the 5 speed manual swap, and a rebuilt steering rack.

Thanks, I'll be sure to look up measurements very carefully. I could use a technical diagram of your shock-tower-pusher-outer haha. My car is pretty straight as far as the frame and body is concerned, but you really never know with these cars.
So the install when okay, I borrowed a snap-on 0-250 ft/lbs torque wrench from a garage down the street, but I think It may have been overkill, I didn't want to tighten the intake bolts down too hard, especially because its an aluminum intake, and I've read that they have been known to crack. I'll start her up tomorrow, and post a video/pictures on oppo, see if I did everything correctly, or if I gotta buy new gaskets and try again.

I'll measure mine as soon as I get a chance!
